Sound on. “Breadbird (No. 1),” 2020. In order to convey the core of my electronic practice, I built this demonstration piece featuring five oscillators and an audio transformer circuit. The oscillators have adjustable base resistors which enable me to alter the pattern (and therefore the song). Does this oscillating circuit have something in common with bird neurology?

Acrylic, copper etching, silkscreen, and custom analog electronics on fiberglass panel (aka manufactured printed circuit board). 24” x 18” x 1.5” The squawking sounds rare generated by the analog electronic circuit that surrounds the birds. In other words, electricity is flowing through the surface of the painting.

I’m back in my studio after an amazing trip to Los Angeles. I miss that fabulous (sunny and warm) city, but wintertime rural Virginia is good place to get work done.
